Hello!

Thanks for stopping by, I’m Sara, an illustrator, artist and picture book maker who lives in the rural Scottish Borders. It’s a beautiful place to be and offers lots of inspiration. I make my art using a variety of media (because why choose one?) but my favourite will always be pencils. My personal work is heavily influenced by nature and the environment, and although I’ve illustrated books on a range of subjects, I’d love that to be my focus.

Someone once described my style as ‘contemporary nostalgia’ which I like very much.

Some (mildly) interesting facts about me:

  • I don’t have any formal illustration training. I don’t even have an art GCSE or A Level. My only qualification is a degree in Design Crafts which didn’t include much drawing

  • I was a metalsmith before I switched to illustration

  • I’ve had no sense of smell since I was a child

  • My grandfather was a designer in the Potteries

  • My digestive system hates onions even if my heart loves them

  • I used to play clarinet, saxophone, piano, harp and tin whistle

  • I’m 99% sure I have adhd but can’t afford a diagnosis

  • I’ve lived in Staffordshire, North Wales, Mid Wales, Herefordshire, Brighton, Devon, Somerset and now Scotland
